The maker
It started with one quilt.
Patina Threads began at a kitchen table, with a water-stained quilt nobody wanted and an afternoon spent seeing what it could still become. That quilt became a jacket. The jacket started everything. Every piece since has been made the same way — by hand, one at a time, by me.
The name
Why “patina.”
Patina is what time leaves behind on things that were used and loved — the softened color, the worn edge, the mend that became part of the design. Most industries call that damage. I think it's the best part. Threads ties it all to textile — clothing, quilts, linen, whatever has a story woven in.
The sourcing
Found, not manufactured.
The textiles come from estate sales, farm auctions, cedar chests and the backs of linen closets — quilts too worn to stay whole, denim with decades of work in it, embroidery someone's grandmother never finished. I look for character, history and possibility.
The process
Reworked by hand.
Each piece is washed, mended, cut and rebuilt by hand. I keep the original stitching wherever I can and let the textile decide what it wants to be. Nothing is rushed, nothing is duplicated, and no two pieces are quite alike — that's the point.
